Love and War

Zach is such a wild man sometimes. He can certainly be rambunctious when presented an opportunity to let loose. He has knocked down his fair share of kids in soccer games trying to steal the ball and not paying attention to who is around him. He brushes off bumps and knocks from the bigger kids he wrestles with at the gym. He is a tough-guy boy through and through. But just as much of an athlete and competitor he is, the kid is also a lover. He hugs on EVERYONE. He hugs the dogs, he insists on hugging Reece 100 times a day and NEVER misses a night-time hug and kiss (or 10) from anyone in the family. He knocks me over with hugs as though I have been gone for days even when I just go out to get the mail and come back in. He cried when he forgot to kiss and hug his teacher goodbye last week. Give the kid 5 minutes of fun, and be prepared for your goodbye hug AND kiss.

He met a new friend, Grayson, at soccer on Monday. At least one other boy and a little girl were gracious Zach-hug recipients during practice. Zach and Grayson spent most of the game talking to eachother and had been playing on the playground following that. After inviting each other to come play at their respective houses more than once, and wearing each other out, he rushed across the playground and gave the kid a hug and kiss goodbye. I began to wonder if the boys father was as shocked as he looked...though his son accepted the send off without a grimace. We decided to explain to Zach that he might want to just shake hands or give high fives as a goodbye to little boys from now on. I love that he is both all boy with bumps and bruises and a potty mouth...and i love how sweet, kind, polite and complimentary he is...so I hope the hugs and kisses don't slip toooo far away!
