First Stitches

Saturday following Thanksgiving, I set to work putting up the Christmas decorations and Trent and Zach headed out to do some shopping. 11am I got a call from Trent and I knew something was up. He said "we have had a major accident" and began trying to explain something about a wheel and Zach getting under it. Of course, my imagination got the better of me and I panicked.

The whole story came together much later in the day. Zach was riding through the parking lot, on his tummy, on top of a dog food bag, on the bottom rack of the Sam's Club cart and as he says, he "tried to stop the wheels with his hand." Two of his fingers on his left hand went underneath and ground into the gravel. His ring finger sustained minor scratches and a very nasty looking blood blister which he thinks is cool and calls the "hill on his finger." His middle finger was shredded from the last knuckle to the tip.

The boys spent the entire day at the ER. 11am-8pm. I was going crazy here at the house because we didnt want to expose Reece to the sick folks at the ER and since he wont take a bottle, i couldnt leave him behind and go. I thought i was going to lose my mind. We didnt know how much of the finger they were going to salvage, and they were putting him under anesthesia to do the repair. I desperately called people looking for someone to talk to to keep me calm and sane. It was one of the longest days of my life being so helpless when my child was in need. I know though, that with two boys, the ER will probably see us AT LEAST a few times in the coming years. SO, I am practicing my game face and relaxation skills for the future.

Zach was a superhero as usual. Daddy was AMAZING! Thank GOD for the iPhone! Trent downloaded a dozen games to keep Z busy, and Zach even asked to watch a little football in the waiting room. He is home healing up now. Bandage changes are a BEAR, but looks like if we are lucky, he will recover and MAYBE have a fingernail even!

As you can see, he was even smiling! He is so proud of his bravery (as am I)!

Oh no, bless his heart. We are glad he is ok. It looks like he was enjoying his stay at the hospital. The scary part that I read is "reece won't take a bottle"??????? Bless your heart.
