St. Patty's Day Limerick
(sang with your best Irish accent)
Do you like green eggs and ham?
Do you like them Sam I Am?
Will you try them Reece and Zach?
Will you try them for St. Pat?
We will try them, just for fun.
We DID try them, everyone!
Now we're begging for them every day.
We like our breakfast green this way.
Yes we like them, yes we do.
We'll take one helping, maybe two.
(I am really going to have to find a way to recruit one of my witty friends to assist me on these posts. )
This meal was by far the most unappetizing appearing meal I have ever concocted. Well, maybe with the exception of the one time I put S.O.S on the plate. I certainly would not typically be a candidate for any fancy "chef-ing" competitions but, I was really pushing some boundaries this time. I figured the contents of these plates would make a swift journey to the trash. I fully prepared myself for these kids to glare at this meal with far more painful expressions than any culinary expert, in the most heated evaluation of "chef-ery" skills...but, alas, it was a tremendous triumph! Honestly, they didn't even hesitate. Really, they are begging for me to do it "every day."
Green milk, green apple slices, green sauteed ham, green scrambled eggs, and because I could determine no other way to make the bread change color, egg overkill: green vanilla french toast. Sure, a more prepared motherly diva would have baked green bread and whipped up some emerald, shamrock shaped butter pats. But that was only a slight possibility around here before I had two boys to chase around. Now I only go nuts once or twice a year.
I do believe I created a verdigris masterpiece! The salty eggs and ham were quite delicious paired with the sweet french toast. Like a little monte cristo. How the kids kept themselves from feeling green gazing at this feast, I am unsure; it was a little hard even cooking it. I am now researching remedies for removing food color from skin. It happened last time I got crazy with the egg dye... No, not my hands. Nope. Wrong. Not the kids faces either. I fully expect my little leprechaun to ...oh, ok...you get the picture. I won't make you scream "uncle." And seeing that my sis has a baby on the way, I don't want to shock her too much just yet. I will let her enjoy this discovery on her own.

My grandparents used to drive for miles and miles taking my sister and I to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, even far beyond the years when we both believed we would actually find one. They always committed to the adventure, all of us anticipating the next turn and cheering for a heavy gas pedal, until either the road went no farther, or the rainbow faded. I've known for sometime that the gold is not in an iron pot at the end, but recently, have decided it lies in the journey to reach it. May your lives too, be filled with infinite rainbows.

glad the boys liked how it turned out b/c honestly, it looks a bit unappetizing.:) scott maded green eggs and ham for nick once. nick didn't eat eggs for almost a year after that! come over here and cook me something will you?
Oh my goodness. Was trying to figure out what the heck that green ham was!!! It looked like spinach greens. There is no way my girls would eat that! So cute that Z & R loved it! I would have to draw the line at green milk. St. Patty's day came and went and was completely forgotten in the Kaiser home!
Oh my goodness! We couldnt figure out what the ham was either.
Way to go on the creative touches! You always impress me!
Ok, ok...I give...what the heck turns green if not your face or hands????? I think the guessing is scaring me worse than knowing!
