Soccer Moms have claws!

So, technically, I was a soccer mom the day that Zach started playing. But now, the soccer mom beast inside me is growing. And you better watch out for her because she might bite!

Zach has two "coaches" for his soccer group. One is a girl and the other is a kid who plays on the city soccer team. The girl is ok. She knows the rules, but is not terribly patient, or playful. (a FANTASTIC combination for a group of 20 or so 4 year olds!) The male "coach" is actually very good. He plays the sport very well, he is laid back, and the kids really adore him.

Every week, they randomly divide the kids into two groups and then split off with each "coach". Once in the two groups, they play a couple of warm up games like Red Light Green Light or Tag, and then the coach divides his or her own group in half again for a little scrimmage.

Somehow, 9 out of 10 times, we get "picked" to go with the girl coach. She gets annoyed with the kids every time. She asks them what color they want or who wants to kick...and then says "Oh...nope...Cade is the only one who didn't ask...so HE gets to..." or she purposely gives them a yellow jersey if they ask for blue. Now, i understand to a degree, she is trying to keep a bunch of 4 year olds from arguing, but at the same time, she almost devilishly baits them into the whole situation by posing the question to them. As you can imagine, Zach is one of the least shy of the bunch, and as vocal as he is, he falls into her traps regularly. I know i sound like a petty chick babbling...but even Trent asked me (without my prompting him) what the deal was with this chick when he stopped in for a game or two.

So this week...i almost tackled her myself! Folks...not once, not twice, but THREE times, as Zach was leading the bunch across the field, two or three kicks away from a goal...the woman steals the ball from him and kicks it back to the other team! Poor kid! Everyone is cheering for him to go for the goal and the woman kicks the ball away from him mid run!

I know its just pee wee sports, but come on! Let the kid SCORE! I know he is a little faster and more fearless than some of the other kids, so he gets the ball more than SOME of the kids do...but if he gets the ball from them, he should be allowed the right to run it in too right? at least a couple of times anyway! But every time the poor kid is set up to run it in, she takes it away....and she does not do that to the other kids! He was so disappointed, he ran off the feild the last time and after a little coaxing he was back out there.

Trent saw the fury in my expression. This year I just rolled my eyes...it is just for fun after all....but if this soccer mom beast grows much inside me...WATCH OUT! NOBODY messes with my kid!

maybe you should be the coach. I dread having to watch things like that....you have more restraint than i have. We would have been kicked off the team. My poor kids.
